Krystal Smith was born in Southwest Florida in 1994 and immediately began drawing upon acceptance of her first crayon. She hoped to one day work for Steve Irwin. That unfortunately didn't work out, so she uses her passions for both art and the natural sciences to advocate for the environment and education. She hopes that her art will encourage people to value and respect the natural world they reside in. Her nature-themed artwork is often intended to be both accurate and educational as well as decorative and appealing. Since 2016, she has been a graphic designer for Wisdom House Books where she designs and illustrates books of various genres. She is a 2016 graduate from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore Maryland, with a BFA in Illustration. Krystal is also the recipient of numerous awards, including a Society of Illustrators scholarship in 2016. She has had work shown in many places in Florida, North Carolina, and New York.
Krystal is available for freelance illustration and design work, as well as custom orders on her prints and merchandise. She is a member of the AFAS group in Winston-Salem and sometimes shows and sells work at the Red Dog Gallery. You can also find some of her work and merchandise at Southwinds Gallery in Kernersville, NC and Fourth and Trade in Winston-Salem, NC. She also frequents SPX in Bethesda, MD and some MICA events.
